CRUEL GBV SUSPECT WITH OUKAPI ARRESTED ASSAULTING WOMAN WITH A BABY!

Members of the SAPS Marathon Team demonstrated courage and swift action when they intervened in a gender-based violence (GBV) incident, leading to the arrest of a 30-year-old suspect.

The incident occurred on Monday, 2 March, at approximately 17:00, when the team was travelling back to Limpopo after participating in the SAPS Polmed Race in Buffalo City, Eastern Cape.

They stopped at the Jamestown filling station to refuel.

While at the station, the officers noticed a man assaulting a 25-year-old woman who was carrying a baby. The suspect was reportedly armed with an object, which he used during the attack.

The SAPS members immediately intervened, rescuing both the woman and her child from further harm. They escorted the victim to the local police station, where a formal case was opened.

The suspect attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended after a brief foot chase. An okapi knife, described as a dangerous weapon, was confiscated during the arrest.

The suspect was handed over to patrol officers, Sergeant Tom and Constable Pela of South African Police Service James Calata (formerly SAPS Jamestown).

Authorities have opened cases of Assault GBH and Domestic Violence against the suspect.

Investigations are ongoing.

Police have commended the marathon team members for their vigilance and commitment to protecting vulnerable members of the community.
