CHILD DIAPERS’ QUARREL SEES ABUSIVE LOVER SENTENCED TO EIGHT YEARS!
A quarrel between lovers have seen the abusive boyfriend charged and sentenced to eight years in prison.
The 30-year-old accused, Moleli Motlatsi, was arrested following a Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) related incident in Warrenton.
It was on Saturday, 27 July 2024, in Ikhutseng, Warrenton when Maria Thompson (28), who was in a relationship with Motlatsi, was preparing to attend a church service when the accused instructed her to change the diapers of their baby.
It is understood Thompson refused and the accused followed her to the bedroom where he physically assaulted her.
A family member who was present in the house intervened and alerted the police.
The accused was subsequently arrested and charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) and contravention of the Domestic Violence Act.
On Thursday, 16 April 2026, the Warrenton Magistrate’s Court found the accused guilty and sentenced him to eight years’ imprisonment.
The Frances Baard District Management has welcomed the conviction and commended Detective Sergeant Oreeditse Mooketsi of the Warrenton Detectives for his diligent investigation, which led to the successful conviction and sentencing.
