LEKAKA SETS NEW TSHWANE NORTH ULTRA COURSE RECORD IN AKASIA!

The fourth edition of the Mpileng Tshwane North Ultra Marathon has a new course record!

And, the man responsible for setting the new 50km record of 2 hours 56 minutes 30 seconds is none other than trail runner, Remaketse Lekaka, who beat a quality field on 18 April 2026 to breast the tape at the time no one ever expected at the Akasia Hall.

Lekaka shoved off an amazing six minutes from Malusi Dlomo’s winning time of 2025 – 03:01:14.

The Folang Marekong athlete, Lekaka, was followed home by Boxer’s Gladwin Mzasi, who crossed the line four minutes later to show the gap that Lekaka had opened from his competitors.

Third was Julius Mwangi who arrived home in 3:11:07 while Paseka Mosehla was fourth in 3:12:58.

In the women’s section, there was an amazing competition between Puleng Khumalo, Wida de Klerk and Odette Fourie, but the former walked away with the gold medal in 3:38:50.

In second place was De Klerk in 3:47: 20 and Fourie had to be contend with a third place finish in 4:25:32.

Lekaka demonstrated exceptional prowess, outpacing his competitors by a considerable margin. Gladwin Mzazi, the former SA 5 000m Champion, trailed behind, finishing second with a time of 03:00:22. Julius Mwangi rounded out the top three, completing the course in 03:11:07.

In the 21,1km distance, a late entrant won the men’s race in a cool 1:00:36 ahead of Philimon Koskey who arrived home in 1:06:54, and, Valencia Modiba took the laurels in the women’s section in 1:30:43 before the attention fell on Portia Maleka five minutes later.

In the 10km distance, a remarkable Tshepo Mphulanyane was the first athlete home while women’s title went to Rudendo Nyahora.
