NASIPHI SAVES TSHWANE FROM THE BRINK OF COLLAPSE!
Mayor Moya’s Leadership Highlighted in Tshwane Delivery Tour
ActionSA National Chairperson Michael Beaumont has praised the leadership of Nasiphi Moya during the launch of the “Mayor Moya Delivery Tour”, saying the City of Tshwane is beginning to show signs of recovery after years of instability.
Speaking at the launch on 4 March, Beaumont said the tour aims to demonstrate the progress made by Moya and the coalition government she leads since taking office less than 18 months ago.
According to Beaumont, the capital city had experienced significant political instability, with seven mayors since 2016.
During that period, he said service delivery declined, city finances deteriorated and law enforcement weakened.
However, Beaumont believes the current administration has begun stabilising the city and restoring confidence among residents.
“One mayor stepped in to pull the city back from the brink, and that is Dr Nasiphi Moya,” he said.
One of the key areas highlighted was law enforcement.
Beaumont said the administration launched the “Reclaim Our City” initiative in partnership with South African Police Service, Tshwane Metro Police Department and Department of Home Affairs to target illegal activities such as drug operations, illegal businesses and unlawful electricity connections.
More than 400 by-law enforcement operations have reportedly been conducted over the past year.
Beaumont said this campaign has helped reclaim buildings used for criminal activities and restore law and order in several areas.
He also noted that Moya appointed MMC for Community Safety Hannes Coetzee to strengthen law enforcement efforts.
The city has since recruited 200 additional metro police officers and increased its safety services budget from R4.5 billion to R5.3 billion.
He said the improvements have contributed to the city being recognised by the South African Cities Network as South Africa’s safest metro.
He added that the administration has also taken steps to address corruption, with more than 60 municipal officials dismissed for misconduct and several cases of financial irregularities under investigation.
Other achievements highlighted include reducing the city’s debt to Eskom by over R2 billion, resurfacing more than 220km of roads, handing over more than 3,300 title deeds to residents, and securing R86 billion in investment pledges.
Beaumont said the Delivery Tour will continue across the city to showcase progress and encourage residents to support leaders committed to improved governance and service delivery.
