JELLY BABIE GETTING DIVORCED!
By Koketso Ramorei
Hardly a year into her wedding to traditional healer husband, Karabo Khakhu, better known as Jelly Babie in the entertainment circles, is set to end her short-lived marriage.
The Jukulyn hitmaker rose to fame after working with the late Vusi MaR5, the king of Bacardi music genre.
Following MaR5’s death, Jelly Babie carved out her path in the music industry, collaborating with some of South Africa’s biggest names, including DJ Maphorisa and Uncle Waffles.
Despite being a high school dropout and currently unemployed, Jelly Babie has captured the attention, not just for her performances in Pretoria’s lively taverns and shebeens, but her flambouyance.
Jelly Babie’s journey is particularly notable given her decision to leave school in Grade 11.
At the time, her choice raised eyebrows, especially as Barcadi music was primarily associated with local drinking spots.
The Bacardi sensation divulged how she got her big break in the music industry through Itumeleng “Vusi MaR5″ Mosoeu, who died on 13 January.
Jelly Babie, said the artist’s death caused a lot of attention to be focused on her at school, and teachers used to comment on her going to gigs, so she decided to leave school.
“Honestly speaking, I left school after Vusi R5’s funeral. When I got to school, people kept telling me how sorry they were, asking me about MaR5, and I couldn’t concentrate at school. The teachers would call me into the staff room, asking me about MaR5, how I’m healing … even the treatment that I was getting,” she said.
Jelly Babie said before she quit school, she had never been absent because MaR5 would make sure she attended classes.
