On Thursday, 7 August 2025, the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Tshwane intensified its crime-combating efforts through the ongoing rollout of #OperationShanela. This latest high-impact operation targeted the Mabopane and Loate policing precincts, with the support of various operational and proactive law enforcement partners.

Led by the Acting District Commissioner of Tshwane, Brigadier Moses Dladla, the operation resulted in the arrest of 347 suspects for a range of criminal offences.

Additional SAPS members from across the Tshwane District were once again deployed to bolster policing efforts in these areas. Key focus areas included liquor law enforcement, tracing of wanted suspects, and high-visibility patrols in known crime hotspots.

District detectives achieved significant successes, arresting 291 wanted suspects, including 3 for murder, 3 for attempted murder, 3 for armed robbery, and 6 for rape.

A multidisciplinary roadblock was executed in Loate, with operational teams conducting coordinated actions across both precincts. These efforts led to the detention of 48 illegal immigrants, who are now being processed for court appearances and possible deportation.

During the operation, 511 individuals and 312 vehicles were searched, with 2 vehicles tested to verify ownership.
