ALLEGED SERIAL RAPIST TO APPEAR IN GA-RANKUWA COURT ON MONDAY

A 44-year-old man who is allegedly linked to 34 serious criminal cases, including multiple rape cases committed across parts of Tshwane and Moretele, is expected to appear before the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 31 August 2026.

The suspect, identified as Alfred Sello “Long” Magoa, was arrested on Saturday, 29 August, in Mabopane by members of the Gauteng Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Serial and Electronic Crime Investigation (SECI) Unit.

His arrest follows an intensive investigation into a number of serious cases in which he is allegedly implicated.

According to police, Magoa has been sought in connection with several rape cases reported in areas including Klipgat, Ga-Rankuwa, Loate, Mabopane and Moretele.

Investigators have linked him to cases dating as far back as 2008, with some of the alleged rape incidents occurring between 2008 and 2016 in different areas around Tshwane.

The investigation also revealed that Magoa allegedly escaped from lawful police custody in December 2019, after which he remained on the run and continued to be sought by investigators.

His arrest is being regarded as a major breakthrough by Gauteng police, particularly in their efforts to bring suspects linked to serious and violent crimes to justice.

The arrest also highlights the continued work of the FCS SECI Unit in pursuing suspects allegedly involved in crimes against women and children and other serious offences.

Magoa is expected to make his first court appearance on Monday, where the charges against him will be formally placed before the court.

Police investigations into the 34 cases are continuing, and further developments are expected as investigators work to establish the full extent of the suspect’s alleged involvement.
