BOLT DRIVER ARRESTED IN GAUTENG OVER MODIMOLLE CAR BREAK-IN

A 26-year-old man has been arrested in Soshanguve, Gauteng, following an intelligence-driven investigation into the theft of valuables from a motor vehicle in Modimolle, Limpopo.

The arrest was made on Wednesday, 26 August 2026, during a coordinated operation involving detectives from Modimolle and the Ekurhuleni District.

The investigation relates to a May 2026 incident in Modimolle in which a Renault Kwid was allegedly broken into and valuable items stolen.

According to the police, the suspect, who is believed to work as a Bolt driver, allegedly travelled from Gauteng to Modimolle in a white Volkswagen Polo with Gauteng registration. He was reportedly accompanied by a male and female accomplice.

The trio allegedly targeted the Renault Kwid and used a pair of scissors to force open its boot before making off with valuable belongings.

Following the incident, detectives pursued several leads as part of an intelligence-driven investigation. Their efforts eventually led them to Soshanguve, where they identified and apprehended the 26-year-old suspect.

At the time of his arrest, the suspect was allegedly driving the same white Volkswagen Polo believed to have been used during the commission of the offence. Police subsequently seized the vehicle as part of the investigation.

Investigators are now probing whether the suspect could be connected to other similar thefts reported in the area.

Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers welcomed the arrest and praised the cooperation between police units from Limpopo and Gauteng.

Scheepers reiterated that police will continue to pursue suspects involved in criminal activities, regardless of where they operate.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Modimolle Magistrate’s Court soon, where he will face a charge of theft out of a motor vehicle.

Police investigations are continuing, and further arrests cannot be ruled out.
