DEATH TOLL RISES AFTER FANI SIBEKO’S ALLEGED SHOTS KILL FOUR!
By Akasia Express News Reporter
The death toll from a shooting in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni, has risen to four following an incident that left several people injured and prompted an investigation by the Gauteng Political Killings Task Team (PKTT).
Initial reports indicated that two men had been killed and five people injured in the shooting, however, subsequent reports on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, stated that two of the injured victims had died in hospital, bringing the confirmed death toll to four, while three others remained in hospital.
The incident has attracted attention because of allegations circulating on social media linking the suspected shooter, identified in media reports as Fani Sibeko, to the Afrika Mayibuye political movement, while the victims have been described as members of the ANC Youth League.
According to reports, the shooting occurred after a memorial service at Mogobeng Primary School in Katlehong.
The suspect reportedly handed himself over to the police and was taken into custody.
The case has been assigned to the Political Killings Task Team for further investigation, and authorities will need to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting, the motive behind the attack and whether political tensions played any role.
Although claims circulating online describe the incident as a deadly confrontation involving political activists, the alleged political motive has not been conclusively established by police.
Questions have also been raised about Sibeko’s alleged position within Afrika Mayibuye and his reported association with the movement’s mayoral candidate, SkeemGP. These claims require independent confirmation from the organisation.
The incident has once again drawn attention to concerns about political violence and the safety of political activists in Gauteng, particularly as political organisations prepare for the upcoming local government elections.
Police investigations remain crucial in determining exactly what happened and whether anyone else was involved.
Akasia Express will continue to follow developments in the case, including official police updates, the condition of the injured victims and any response from the political organisations mentioned in connection with the incident.
