MOTHER ARRESTED AFTER BURYING BABY ALIVE IN HAMMANSKRAAL!

A dramatic rescue by members of the Tshwane Metro Police Department Bike Squad has saved the life of an infant who was allegedly buried alive in a shallow hole in Hammanskraal.

The incident unfolded on Saturday, 7 March 2026, when officers from the specialised bike unit were conducting routine traffic duties in the area.

In a statement by the City of Tshwane, during their patrol, a woman approached the officers asking for assistance to get a taxi.

The officers helped her board a minibus taxi, unaware that a shocking discovery was about to unfold nearby.

Shortly afterwards, a vigilant community member alerted the officers after noticing suspicious behaviour.

The resident had reportedly seen the woman earlier carrying a baby into the premises of a nearby repair business. Alarmed by what he witnessed, he rushed to the officers and urged them to stop the taxi the woman had boarded.

One of the Bike Squad officers immediately gave chase and managed to stop the taxi near the South African Police Service station in Hammanskraal.

Meanwhile, the concerned community member returned to the business premises to investigate further. What he discovered left him stunned.

Hidden in a shallow hole was an infant that had been buried but was miraculously still alive.

Emergency assistance was immediately requested and the child was rescued from the ground.

Authorities said the baby survived thanks to the quick response of both the alert resident and the rapid action of the TMPD officers.

The heroic rescue has been widely praised by officials and residents alike.

Tshwane Metro Police Chief of Police Commissioner YCR Faro commended the officers and the community member for their decisive actions that prevented what could have been a tragedy.

“Thanks to their vigilance and courage, a life was saved. Together we keep Tshwane safe,” Faro said following the incident.

City leadership also applauded the officers. Nasiphi Moya publicly thanked the Bike Squad for their swift and courageous intervention that helped save the infant’s life.

Authorities have confirmed that a suspect, believed to be the mother of the child, was later taken into custody as investigations into the incident continue.

The case has shocked residents in Hammanskraal, a township north of Pretoria that has in recent years faced a number of social challenges including poverty, crime and service delivery issues.

Community members say the incident highlights the importance of cooperation between residents and law enforcement in preventing tragedies.

Police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activity immediately.

The rescue has also drawn attention to the work of the TMPD Bike Squad, a specialised unit deployed in busy urban areas where motorcycles allow officers to respond quickly to incidents and navigate congested spaces more efficiently than patrol vehicles.

For many residents in Hammanskraal, the outcome of the incident serves as a powerful reminder that community awareness and rapid police response can mean the difference between life and death.
