GALFA DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE RESUMES THIS WEEKEND!
By Akasia Express Sports Reporter
The Ga-Rankuwa Local Football Association (GALFA) Development League will resume on Saturday, 10 October 2026, after this weekend’s fixtures were moved to accommodate the ongoing school holidays.
The break has affected player availability across several participating clubs, with many young players away with their families or using the school holiday period to prepare for the third and final term of the school calendar.
Following formal requests from a number of clubs, the Ga-Rankuwa Local Football Association (GALFA) decided to pause the programme rather than disadvantage teams unable to field their regular squads.
In a statement, GALFA said: “The decision was made following numerous formal requests from participating clubs. Due to the current school holidays, a significant number of teams are facing severe player non-availability caused by family travel and academic breaks.”
The association said the move was necessary to protect the competitiveness and fairness of the league.
“To maintain the competitive integrity of the league and ensure no team is unfairly penalised for a lack of players, we have decided to pause the league programme.”
The Development League will now return to action on Saturday, 10 October, with clubs expected to have the majority of their players back and available for selection.
The league remains an important platform for developing young footballers in the Ga-Rankuwa area, giving them regular competitive football and an opportunity to gain experience at grassroots level.
