TSHWANE MAYOR OWES CITY R270K!
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has received confirmation from Tshwane Mayor Nasiphi Moya, that she will make arrangements to repay about R270,000.
It has been raised since January that the current Mayor was overpaid during her tenure as an official of the City of Tshwane.
The opposition party claims it has been asking the Mayor about the matter since January 2025.
In June, according to a DA statement, Moya committed to providing the information, but has since ignored correspondence from the DA on the matter.
On Tuesday, the opposition says it issued a press statement on the matter, and the following day they received a letter from Moya confirming that she is one of the officials who haven’t yet paid back undue salary payments from the City.
Most of the officials who had received these undue payments have already paid back the money, or made payment arrangements with the City.
“It is unfortunate that Mayor Moya had to be prompted publicly to do what is right, instead of setting an example at her own accord,” DA said in a statement.
This will be the second repayment that Moya has had to make to Tshwane, the first being an amount of R10 000 received for an international trip which she did not undertake.
“The DA will continue to monitor the matter to ensure that payments are made,” said Jacqui Uys, DA Tshwane Spokesperson on Finance.
