SOUTH AFRICA IS A LAWLESSNESS COUNTRY, CRIME STATS DON’T LIE!
The South African Police Service (SAPS) arrested 18 634 suspects from 18 to 24 August 2025, signalling a bold reaffirmation of public safety and the rule of law.
Among them were 3 087 wanted individuals linked to serious and violent crimes, including murder, rape, hijacking, and armed robbery.
(Furthermore)131 suspects were arrested for murder – KwaZulu-Natal recorded a commanding 35 arrests – Gauteng followed as the second-highest contributor with 27, and then Eastern Cape with 23.

* 722 suspects were arrested for driving under the influence of Alcohol or Drugs, Gauteng leads with 185 arrests, Mpumalanga follows closely with 184 and KwaZulu-Natal records 155 arrests

* A total of 106 suspects were arrested for illegal possession of firearms, KwaZulu-Natal led with 32 arrests, Eastern Cape followed with 21 arrests and Gauteng secured 19 arrests, rounding out the top three
* Drug Dealing: A staggering 232 suspects were arrested for drug trafficking and distribution – KwaZulu-Natal once again led with 53 arrests – Eastern Cape maintained its momentum with a strong second-place showing

Confiscations and Recoveries:
The week’s operations also led to the seizure of high-value contraband and dangerous goods, reflecting the depth of criminal networks being dismantled:

▶️180 firearms
▶️2 921 rounds of ammunition
▶️77 stolen and hijacked vehicles recovered during this period.

INTELLIGENCE-LED TAKEDOWNS AND OPERATIONS:
NATIONAL: On 21 August 2025, the National Commissioner of the SAPS, General Fannnie Masemola, led a drug destruction process worth more than R 400 million in Gauteng.
In a separate enforcement operation, on 22 August 2025, the National Tracking and Tracing Task Team, under OPERATION BUYISA, has seized 226 firearms from a registered private security company after uncovering serious contraventions of the Firearms Control Act, 2000 (Act 60 of 2000).
NORTHERN CAPE: On 24 August 2025 , a coordinated Inter-Provincial Operation led to the arrests of 116 suspects across Frances Baard, Namakwa, and Pixley Ka Seme.
Major seizures in Colesberg included illicit cigarettes and a truck worth R7.5 million, plus stolen goods and a maroon VW Polo linked to criminal activity.
Recovered items spanned firearms, ammunition, counterfeit goods, drugs, alcohol, weapons, and cash.
NORTH WEST: On 22 August 2024, Police arrested a 26-year-old Mfana Ngwenya in connection with the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Kgaugelo Nnonu Morata (20) and attempted to murder his new partner, then confessed on a video post on social media.
He has already appeared before the Temba Magistrates’ Court today, on charges of murder and attempted. His case was postponed until 05 September 2025 for formal bail application.
EASTERN CAPE: On 18 August 2025 – A crime intelligence-driven operation led by Molteno Visible Policing, the Provincial Firearm, Liquor and Second-Hand Goods Unit (FLASH), and Tactical Response Teams resulted in the arrest of three suspects for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Officers recovered nine unlicensed firearms, including five scoped hunting rifles with two suppressors, three 9mm pistols, 320 spent rifle cartridges, 28 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and 15 live 9mm rounds.
GAUTENG:Ekurhuleni: 24 August 2025 – Operation Shanela 2 netted 368 arrests across Ekurhuleni from 22–24 August, with 165 suspects traced by detectives and others nabbed for contact crimes, GBV, and serious offences. Seventy-two (72) undocumented immigrants were arrested, and multiple charges laid for drugs, drunk driving, and weapons.
Crime Intelligence made key arrests for stolen vehicles, copper, ammunition, and drug dealing. In Kwa-Thema, a suspect was found with a serial-less 9mm pistol and 30 rounds.
Still on Gauteng, a joint operation led by the National and Gauteng Counterfeit Units, in collaboration with Brand Protectors, Gauteng Crime Prevention Wardens, and BCI Security, resulted in the seizure of 2,947 counterfeit cellphone accessories at Fourways Mall.
The goods, valued at approximately R2.79 million, were confiscated during inspections at six targeted shops.
WESTERN CAPE: On 22 August 2025 – K9 Worcester and Provincial Traffic arrested a 46-year-old suspect after intercepting a truck on the N1 near Worcester carrying 2,271 units of abalone worth R1.8 million. The suspect is due in court on 25 August for illegal possession.
LIMPOPO: Tshilwavhusiku Polokwane – 22 August 2025 Seven suspects, including a 22-year-old female, have been arrested during an intelligence-driven operation targeting a group linked to a series of violent robberies in the Tshilwavhusiku policing area.
The suspects, aged between 19 and 32, were apprehended on Thursday, 22 August. Follow-up investigations led to the arrest of three suspects in Muraleni village and four in Tshikwarani village. A pellet gun believed to have been used in the crimes, and several suspected stolen cellphones were seized.
Preliminary findings link the group to at least six robbery cases since early August, including a targeted attack on stockvel members.All suspects are expected to appear in the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 25 August 2025, facing multiple charges, including robbery with a firearm, house robbery, and business robbery.
FREE STATE: Free State Province: 20 August 2025 – Bloemfontein police arrested two male suspects aged 20 and 21 years following a patrol response to a complaint in the Central Business District.
They were found in possession for an iPhone and a laptop equipped with graphic design software to design and produce fraudulent government documents—including driver’s licences, passports, and fake payment notices from banks and lending institutions.
In a separate operation, Police in Hennenman have arrested a 43-year-old male suspect following the recovery of suspected stolen copper cables on the R53.
Officers intercepted a truck and arrested the driver after failing to produce valid documentation for the copper cargo. He was arrested on the scene.
Police confiscated 17.86 tons of copper cables with an estimated street value of R3 million, along with a MAN truck used in the transport.
KWAZULU-NATAL: The Zululand District Task Team and Ulundi Crime Intelligence led to the arrest of one suspect who was found in possession of prohibited rifles and ammunition at Ngwabe area in Nongoma in the early hours of Sunday, 17 August 2025.
In another significant operation, on 18 August 2025, police in KwaNongoma arrested a 42-year-old suspect for possession of four unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
The officers recovered a .303 rifle with scope, an AK-47 assault rifle, an Uzi submachine gun, and a 9mm pistol, all concealed under the mattress. All recovered firearms will undergo ballistic testing to determine possible links to other crimes.
The Nation Commissioner of Police, General Fannie Masemola, says “police will not be negotiating with criminals, one arrest at a time. Shanela is not just an operation; it’s a declaration that lawlessness will not rule this nation.”
