THREE SUSPECTS LINKED TO ROBERT WOLK MURDER CASE ARRESTED!

By AKASIA EXPRESS NEWS REPORTER

Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of celebrated South African racing driver Robert Wolk, who was fatally shot in Esther Park, Kempton Park, on Wednesday, 16 September 2026.

Wolk, 41, was killed at about 16h20 during an apparent road-rage confrontation.

The latest development was announced by the City of Ekurhuleni following an intelligence-driven operation involving the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD), SAPS Crime Intelligence and Blue Hawks Security personnel.

According to the City, Wolk was shot at an intersection in Esther Park and the suspects fled in a blue Volkswagen Jetta 5 sedan.

A murder docket was subsequently opened at Sebenza police station.

The getaway vehicle proved to be an important lead for investigators.

Authorities established that the Jetta was allegedly linked to two other cases involving hijacking and murder, prompting a wider investigation into the vehicle and its occupants.

The City said a joint operation was activated after investigators received what it described as credible information.

Within 24 hours, the team had tracked down three suspects.

One suspect was arrested in the Spartan area, while two others were arrested at the Enhlanzeni Hostel.

The Jetta allegedly used in the shooting was also recovered during the operation.

Investigators then followed another lead to a house at Allandale Farm in Mayibuye, where a Beretta pistol with a filed-off serial number and 17 rounds of live ammunition was recovered.

The firearm is believed by investigators to have been used in the murder, although forensic and ballistic investigations will be required to establish its evidentiary connection to the shooting.

The three suspects are in custody and face charges including murder, possession of a suspected hijacked or robbed motor vehicle, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations against the suspects will still have to be tested through the criminal justice process.

Additional reporting has identified the victim as Robert Wolk, one of South Africa’s prominent motorsport competitors.

According to reports, Wolk had been travelling in his Audi when it was involved in a low-speed collision with the blue Volkswagen Jetta.

He reportedly got out of his vehicle following the collision, after which a confrontation developed between the motorists.

A firearm was allegedly produced before Wolk was shot.

MDNtv +1Video footage of the confrontation subsequently circulated on social media, drawing widespread attention to the killing.

There is a difference in the descriptions of the intersection in reports: the City of Ekurhuleni’s release refers to Parklands and Cawood Streets, while several reports citing police information describe the location as the corner of Camwood Street and Portland Drive.

Akasia Express has retained the official City wording in reference to the law-enforcement statement while noting the discrepancy in independently published reports.

The shooting has sent shockwaves through South African motorsport because Wolk was still actively competing at national level at the time of his death.

Robert Wolk had a motorsport career spanning almost three decades, according to Motorsport South Africa.

His achievements included South African Junior GP Karting Championship titles, Formula Ford championships, the 2013 SA Formula Volkswagen Championship, the 2015 SA Formula 1600 Championship, the 2021 and 2022 SA Global Touring Cars Championships, and the 2024 South African Touring Cars Championship.

In May, Wolk won his second Simola Hillclimb King of the Hill title, driving the Investchem team’s Gould GR55.

He recorded a best time of 35.024 seconds in the decisive Top 10 Shootout.

Speed Festival +1Motorsport South Africa said Wolk was due to compete at Killarney that weekend, making his death particularly poignant for the racing community.

EMPD Chief of Police IJ Mapiyeye commended the officers involved in the operation, praising their rapid response and cooperation across law-enforcement structures.

The City of Ekurhuleni said the arrests demonstrate the continued efforts by law-enforcement agencies to address serious and violent crime in the municipality.

The arrests also come against the backdrop of intensified law-enforcement activity in Ekurhuleni’s Northern Region.

Earlier this month, EMPD and other specialised units conducted a multidisciplinary operation covering areas including Edenvale, Edleen and Kempton Park, targeting crime and other law-enforcement concerns.
