POLICE CRACK DOWN ON ILLEGAL GUNS AND DRUNK DRIVING IN PRETORIA NORTH!

A man, found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, was arrested and is expected to appear before the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court.

The arrest comes amid intensified crime-prevention operations by police in the Pretoria North policing precinct.

Authorities have recently increased visibility through stop-and-search operations and vehicle checkpoints as part of ongoing efforts to curb violent crime and illegal weapons in the area.

According to police, officers stopped and searched a suspect during one of the operations and recovered a 9mm pistol and 13 rounds of ammunition, and the firearm was found to be unlicensed.

The suspect was immediately arrested and remains in custody as investigations continue.

In a broader crackdown during the same operation, police also arrested 11 suspected drunk drivers and three undocumented individuals, highlighting a multi-pronged approach targeting both crime and road safety violations.

Visible Policing Commander, Lt-Col Theunis Smit, commended all teams involved, including the National Traffic Police, CPF patrollers, private security company Maximum, and the South African Police Service. He praised their coordinated efforts in removing illegal firearms from communities and addressing reckless behaviour on the roads.

Smit indicated that such operations are critical in ensuring the safety of communities, as drunk driving continues to pose a serious risk to other road users, and police will not tolerate behaviour that endangers lives.

Police have indicated that similar high-visibility operations will continue in the area as part of ongoing efforts to improve safety and law enforcement presence. .
