MAMELODI HOSTAGE DRAMA ENDS IN DEATH!

The  16-hour Mamelodi hostage drama ended in tears with two bodies retrieved by the police.

The devastation followed a 16-hour unsuccessful attempts by police’s hostage negotiators to have 32-year-old police constable Thapelo Mashego to release his 18-year-old nephew and 69-year-old mother.

It is reported by the police that the constable shot himself dead in the early hours of this morning.

This happened shortly after he agreed to release his mother.

She was rushed to hospital.

The police’s hostage negotiators as well as Special Task Force and other units from the South African Police Services (SAPS) were on the ground in Mamelodi East, Buffer Zone responding to a hostage situation.

That’s according to Brigadier Brenda Muridili.

It is alleged that at about 8:00 am, a police constable held his family hostage.

Muridili told the media: “The constable is alleged to have fired two shots before the police arrived on the scene and he is refusing to let his grandmother, nephew and another young boy out of the house.”

Tshwane police district commissioner, Major General Samuel Thine explains: “Negotiators were still negotiating to see if the constable would come out. In the process, while the team was approaching, just before they entered the house.

Two shots were heard. And as they checked inside the house.”“It was found that the constable had taken his life. He committed suicide. The 18-year-old was unfortunately found. He passed, and there were gunshot wounds on the 18-year-old.”
