ARV’S SMUGGLED OUT OF SOUTH AFRICA!
Allegations are rife that South Africa neighbours, Zimbabweans and Malawians, are stealing huge quantities of prescription medication from the country, especially ARVs and other drugs dispatched by public clinics.
It has been reported that such prescription medication is smuggled back to their respective homes across border in buses to sell on the black market.
Another syndicate was dramatically exposed again in the tragic October 2025 Limpopo bus crash that killed 43 people, mostly Zimbabwean and Malawian nationals heading home.
Buckets and bags full of undocumented ARVs and prescription meds were found scattered in the wreckage, with no proper medical cargo papers.
Besides what the police have been told, it remains unclear how these thieves make big money selling the stolen medications on the streets and black markets back in Zimbabwe and Malawi.
