GA-RANKUWA VIEW WETLAND RAISES ITS UGLY HEAD, AND HALTS TOURNAMENT!

The community of Ga-Rankuwa View is devastated and frustrated by the wetland that is gradually swallowing their football and netball sporting grounds.

At the weekend, the Masters League, played by elderly from 35 years upwards, had to be canceled as it was unplayable with the waterlogged ground after persistent torrential rain.

The problem has been ongoing for years now, but other short-term remedial actions were applied to have it operational, but indications are that this could be the last straw.

The rainy weather is exacercebating the matter, making it worse than it has ever been.

The last remedial action was on 13 June 2025, which was in preparation for the annual Mathews Mpete Cup, an event organised by the media personality’s foundation, who used his money to have it restored.

But lack of maintenance saw it drop further and the end result this weekend indicated that the community needs assistance from government.

The Mathews Mpete Foundation applied a Fifa accredited method of using G5 soil, which is applied to swallow and maintain the wetland from being unplayable.

The Tshwane Municipality MMCs in their different constituencies came and promised to fix the wetland, but until today, the community is left frustrated.
