SA POLICE LAUNCHES ITS GROUND-BREAKING OPERATIONAL DRONE PROGRAMME!

SAPS Rustenburg has reaffirmed its commitment to adopting innovative solutions aimed at building safer communities and tackling crime more effectively in all its forms.

Marking a significant milestone, the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Rustenburg officially introduced its operational drone programme on 19 March 2026 at the Rustenburg Fire Department.

This initiative is a major step toward using advanced technology to improve response times, strengthen crime prevention, and increase operational efficiency at the Rustenburg policing precinct.

Rustenburg Station Commander, Brigadier SJ Pheto, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their continued support, highlighting that strong partnerships remain crucial in the fight against crime.

The new drone programme will help police monitor high-risk areas, assist with crowd control, support search-and-rescue missions, and provide vital aerial surveillance during operations. This initiative underscores SAPS’ move towards more proactive and intelligence-driven policing.

The launch event was attended by key stakeholders in the law enforcement and community safety space, including representatives from the Rustenburg Local Municipality, the Royal Bafokeng Reaction Force, and other partners working closely with SAPS.
